CD Tracker Pro

What's the difference between Free and Pro?

The free version tracks up to 5 active CDs and includes the Dashboard, coupons, reports, maturity reminders, backups and iCloud sync. CD Tracker Pro, a one-time purchase with no subscription, adds:

  • Unlimited CDs
  • Widgets for your Home Screen and Lock Screen, with an option to hide amounts
  • Coupon reminders on the day each coupon is expected
  • App Lock with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode
Does renewing a CD use one of my 5 free slots?

No. When you renew, the old CD is marked as Redeemed and redeemed CDs don't count toward the limit.

I bought Pro but the app still shows the limit.
  1. Open the About tab and tap Restore Purchases.
  2. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple Account you used to buy Pro.
  3. If a family member bought Pro, check that Family Sharing is set up for purchases.
How do I add the CD Tracker widget?
  1. Open CD Tracker once so the widget has your latest data.
  2. Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen, tap Edit › Add Widget, and search for CD Tracker.
  3. Choose the small or medium size and tap Add Widget. For the Lock Screen, touch and hold the Lock Screen › Customize › Lock Screen and add CD Tracker below the clock.

The widget updates each time you use the app. If it shows old numbers, open CD Tracker and then go back to the Home Screen.

Can I hide amounts in the widgets?

Yes. Lock Screen widgets can be seen without unlocking your iPhone, so CD Tracker Pro lets you hide them: open the About tab › Security and turn on Hide Amounts in Widgets. All CD Tracker widgets then show •••• instead of amounts, while dates and names are still shown. With this setting on, amounts aren't even saved in the summary the widget reads.

How do coupon reminders work?

At 9:00 AM on the day a coupon is expected, you get a notification with the bank and amount (coupons due the same day come in one notification). Touch and hold the notification and tap Mark as Received to update it without opening the app. Turn coupon reminders on or off in the About tab › Reminders.

How do I turn on App Lock?

Open the About tab › Security and turn on Lock with Face ID (or Touch ID). From then on, CD Tracker asks for Face ID each time you return to it, and your amounts are hidden in the app switcher. If Face ID doesn't recognize you, you can use your device passcode.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases are handled by Apple. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.

iCloud sync

How do I sync my CDs between iPhone and iPad?

Sign in to iCloud with the same Apple Account on both devices and keep Sync with iCloud turned on in the About tab. Changes usually appear within a few moments; the first sync can take a few minutes.

How do I know sync is working?

Open the About tab. Under iCloud you'll see Up to date and when your CDs last synced, Syncing… while changes are being sent, or a message explaining what's preventing sync (for example, not signed in to iCloud, iCloud storage full, or no internet connection).

My CDs aren't syncing.
  • Open the About tab and check the iCloud status; it usually says what's wrong.
  • Check that both devices are signed in to the same iCloud account (Settings › your name).
  • In Settings › your name › iCloud, make sure CD Tracker is allowed to use iCloud and your iCloud storage isn't full.
  • Check your internet connection, then close and reopen CD Tracker.
  • If you just turned sync on or off, close and reopen the app to apply the change.
I see duplicate CDs after turning on sync.

This happens if the same CDs were entered by hand on two devices before syncing. Delete the duplicates on one device; the change syncs to the other.

Coupons & interest

How do I create the coupon schedule for a CD?

When you save a new CD, the app asks whether to generate its coupons and how your bank pays them: on the same day of the month as the start date, or on a specific day (for example, the 30th). You can also open a CD › Coupon Payments › Generate Schedule anytime.

A coupon amount doesn't match what my bank paid.

Banks round and count days differently. Tap the coupon to edit its amount, then mark it as Received. If you change a CD's rate or dates, use Regenerate Schedule to update the coupons still marked as Expected; received coupons are kept.

Why do compound-interest coupons get bigger?

With compound interest, each coupon is added to the principal, so the next one is calculated on a larger balance. With simple interest, coupons are paid out and stay the same.

Backups & reminders

How do I back up or move my data?

Open the About tab › Export Backup (JSON) and save the file to the Files app or iCloud Drive. To restore, use Restore Backup (JSON); CDs and coupons already in the app aren't duplicated.

My backup won't restore.

CD Tracker checks the whole file before restoring anything. If the file is damaged, was edited, or was made by a newer version of CD Tracker, you'll see a message explaining the problem and nothing in the app is changed. Update CD Tracker from the App Store and try again, or use another backup file.

Restoring a backup asks for CD Tracker Pro.

The free version tracks up to 5 active CDs. If restoring a backup would leave you with more than 5, nothing is restored and the app offers CD Tracker Pro. After getting Pro, restore the same backup again. CDs that are already in the app and redeemed CDs don't count toward the limit.

I'm not getting maturity reminders.

Open the About tab › Reminders. If it says Notifications Are Off, tap it to go to Settings and allow notifications for CD Tracker. If it says Turn On Notifications (for example, if you chose “Not Now” when the app asked), tap it and allow them.

Reminders are sent 30, 14, 7 and 1 day before a CD matures, and on the maturity date.

iOS limits how many reminders an app can schedule at once. If you have many upcoming reminders, open CD Tracker from time to time; the last scheduled reminder will remind you to do so, and opening the app schedules the next ones.

I'm not getting coupon reminders.
  • Coupon reminders are part of CD Tracker Pro. Check that Coupon Reminders is on in the About tab › Reminders.
  • Allow notifications: the About tab › Reminders shows whether they're off and takes you to Settings.
  • Reminders are only sent for coupons marked as Expected, for active CDs. Make sure the CD has a coupon schedule (open the CD › Coupon Payments).
A currency isn't included in the USD totals.

The app needs an internet connection to download exchange rates. Open the Dashboard and pull down to refresh.
